The subject of copyright vs public domain of e-mail sent to a
public list server was very recently hashed over here. My intent
is not to resurrect it. Really. But I came across the following
comment placed at the bottom of a long post, which was basically
someone describing their personal experience about the topic
being discussed. This was posted to another mail list I am
subscribed to.

Based on context and placement of this statement, this person
was not saying that his/her post was previously copyrighted, but
that he/she was claiming copyright for it at this time.

I know it is legal; I've just never encountered it before in
this type of forum. Has anyone else? It also seemed contrary to
the previous discussion on this list, which leaned toward the
conclusion that if you post something to a public mailing list,
it becomes public domain.
