Here are the books I consult:

Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary

Strunk and White, Elements of Style

Waite, et al., UNIX System V Primer

Very rarely, the Chicago Manual of Style or MLA Style Manual

I recently bought a copy of Fowler's English Usage, so I'm sure I'll be
consulting that as well.
