Jan,

Although determining whether TMs and/or SMs are italicized or roman is
likely a matter of local style, _The Chicaho Manual of Style_ (14th ed.)
lists both the symbol and the abbreviation in roman (paragraph 7.110, page
282), and so does _Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary_ (p. 1534).
