Hypertext/on-line help question

Having seen discussions here on hypertext and online help projects, I'd like
to get ideas from those experienced with such things. I understand Word 6.0
has some hypertext tools; but how would I do this using Word 5.1 for the
Mac? Assuming we don't upgrade to 6.0, what other ways are there of doing
this--dumping it into another program, utilities, etc.?
------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering what hypertext tools are available, and how to use them, for
the following project, which will be a training aid for the use of database
software tools:

On a Powerpoint slide I have drawn a large circle, with the name of a table
at the top, and all of the column names for that table in the center of the
circle.

I'd like users to be able to point to one of the column names within the
circle and receive descriptive information (in most cases, 50-100 words)
about that particular column. At this point I don't see the hypertext link
needing to go any deeper than that, though I might allow room for expansion
if that's necessary.

Most users will be using a Macintosh platform, but I'd like to make this
available for Windows users also. This doesn't have to be done on
Powerpoint, maybe it could be a Word document. Right now I'm having an
easier time working with the graphics in Powerpoint.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Michael
