Hi all!
I've run into a question regarding capitalization that I can't seem to
find a definitive answer to. I've always done the following:
Figure 5-1
Appendix B
Section 13
Chapter 14
Volume IV

page 17
pp. 12
However, a colleague and I were talking about the capitalization of
"page". I looked it up in _The Chicago Manual of Style_ and _The New
York Public Library Writer's Guide to Style and Usage_. I can't find a
*definite* answer from these, but they seem to say you should do the
following:
see chapter 5 BUT
see Chapter 5, Spelling, for more info......
(same for "figure" and "appendix")
There's no information regarding "page".
I'm not satisfied with these answers. I think "chapter", "figure", and
"appendix" should be capitalized when followed by a number, regardless
of whether or not the name is listed.
Anyone care to give me their opinion? Specifically, I'm most
interested in "chapter", "page", "figure", and "appendix" when
followed by a number.
