Further to my earlier posting, a fellow techwhirler (the courteous
!sabel), gently corrected me on one issue: a native francophone would
have little difficulty distinguishing the lower-case L and the
upper-case I because the "L'" would be implicit because of the
structure of the word that follows; moreover, my audience would be
unlikely to mistake IUFRO for LUFRO in the title, so the problem is
not likely to be serious.

Nonetheless, I showed the problem heading to two francophone
colleagues, and both felt that the problem was worthy of correction.
This suggests to me that techwhirlers (and editors), being more
skilled with their native language, may gloss over bumps in the road
that trip up the less expert. All in all, I prefer to smooth out the
bumps, even if they lead to nothing more than scuffed shoes.
