Subject: Multimedia Writers
In the June issue of "New Media" magazine, there was an article on salary
surveys within the multimedia industry. They listed lots of positions, but
not a single writer, script consultant or information developer position.
Does anyone know what you call a writer when they work in the multimedia
arena?
The answer:
Instructional Designer. That article quotes $45,000 for Instructional
Designers.
I work for a company that does contract technical writing and
computer-based training (now called multimedia). They use the term
instructional designer for both paper and screen. Everything I've read
about multimedia, which has been quite a bit in the last year, says that
if you want to script multimedia, then you're an instructional designer.
An author in multimedia is usually the person who "programs" the
presentation in an authoring tool, such as Macromedia's Director or
Authorware.
I'm in the process of providing information to students about jobs in the
multimedia industry. You may find this information in the following
