The 19th Annual Practical Conference on Communication (PCOC) is being held
October 12 and 13, 1995, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Sponsored by the East
Tennessee Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication, PCOC brings
together presenters from across the United States.

Registration for PCOC includes the two-day conference, conference
proceedings, a wine and cheese reception Wednesday night, special
entertainment and a buffet dinner Thursday night, and a luncheon Friday.
Because Oak Ridge is located approximately one hour from the Smoky Mountains
National Park, an ETC member has volunteered to lead a hike on Saturday for
anyone interested.

This year's keynote speaker is Tom Badgett, an East Tennessee native who has
authored/co-authored more than 30 books on such various topics as computer
software, travel, and desktop publishing. In addition, Tom has worked as a
columnist for PC Magazine and as a technical editor for Computer and
Electronics Magazine. The co-founder of United States Internet, Inc., Tom
brings his knowledge about the Internet to PCOC in his presentation entitled
"The Internet is What the Internet Does."

In addition, more than 25 speakers will be hosting panels, workshops, and
special presentations. Topics include hypermedia/multimedia, with
presentations on using HTML/SGML, the Internet, and the World Wide Web;
educational topics in technical communication such as instruction writing
and ensuring clarity in technical documentation; and workplace strategies
and practical issues in communication. The workshops include information
about portfolios, indexing, and publishing.

The conference will take place at Pollard Auditorium in Oak Ridge,
Tennessee. The cost for a two-day registration is $125 for STC members,
$135 for nonmembers, and $10 for students. One-day registrations are $100.

To receive a preliminary program and registration form, please contact the
Conference Manager at (615) 539-1205.
