It depends, of course, but in businesses where unit of measure is a necessary
fact of the business, the reader (or software user) will most likely know
what it means. Grain trading is an example. Is the grain measure in metric
tons, tons, pounds, bushels, etc.? The people involved in processing a grain
trade knew what UOM was before any automation software landed on their
desktop.
