There is still time to register for "Staying Afloat: Managing
Communication Trends," this year's Society for Technical
Communication Region 2 Conference to be held on Saturday, October
14, 1995 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.
Below is an abbreviated description of the conference, along with
the latest news about the "progression tables," one of the most
interesting parts of any conference.

Two keynote addresses will be featured during the day-long
conference. Ms. Jerilynne Sander, Chief Imagineering Officer at
Simply Written, will deliver the morning keynote address titled,
"Can You Come Out to Play: Winning with Creativity." Saul
Carliner, STC President, will give the afternoon keynote address
titled, "Assuring Your Future: Demonstrating the Value of
Technical Information Products." The morning will also feature a
panel discussion of "Trends in Technical Communication."

In the afternoon, concurrent sessions by industry experts include
"Dealing with the Aftermath of Decentralization," "Choosing a
Windows Help Authoring Tool," and "On Beyond Help: A Taxonomy of
Interface Design Paradigms for On-line Documents." A progression
table session will complete the afternoon's activities. Table
topics include:

- "STC and Certification: Issues, Answers, and Actions"
(led by Larry Kunz, Carolina chapter)
- "Chapter Leadership"
(led by Mary Wise, Washington, DC chapter)
- "Documentation Management"
(led by Annette Reilly, Washington, DC chapter)
- "Staying Afloat on the Internet"
(led by David Hancock, Metro Baltimore chapter)
- "Multimedia"
(led by David Calloway, Philadelphia Metro chapter)
- "Are Educators Staying Afloat? Communication Trends and the
Technical Writing Student"
(led by Sharon Gibson and Linda Mahin, Metro Baltimore chapter)
- "Scientific Communication for the 21st Century"
(led by Cindy Martin, Metro Baltimore chapter)

The price of the full-day conference is a bargain at $75.
