PowerBuilder Screen Captures/Software Demos

Ron Miller asked about a screen capture utility alternative to HiJaak to take
screen shots of PowerBuilder apps. I've used HiJaak quite effectively to
capture screens for WinHelp. I think that Ron's may be "muddy" not because he
used the wrong tool but because he captured the screens in too many colors.
WinHelp 3.x can display only 16 colors, so if you captured 256 or 16 million
colors, they get dithered--and not very intelligently--by the WinHelp engine.
(WinHelp 95 doesn't have this limitation.)

You can either change your Windows screen driver to VGA using the Windows
setup program, or reduce the colors in the files using HiJaak after you've
done the captures. I think the first option is cleaner since it doesn't
require dithering or other manipulation of the graphics file "after the
fact."

For software demos, look at Lotus ScreenCam, which ships with their office
suite but is also available separately. It produces an EXE file that doesn't
require a copy of ScreenCam to play back.
