Subject:Re: Question about making an index entry From:Lori Lathrop <76620 -dot- 456 -at- COMPUSERVE -dot- COM> Date:Tue, 7 Nov 1995 10:58:00 EST
In response to Gwen Clopton (gclopton -at- DCA -dot- COM), who asks about creating
index entries for file extensions such as .INI files and .BMP files ....
In answer to your first question, whether or not to include the period
with the extension name, most indexers do include it; however, in
sorting, the period should be ignored so that the entry is sorted
alphabetically. In other words, under "B" you'd have an entry for
".BMP files", and under "I" you'd have ".INI files".
In answer to your second question, you should also have a main heading for
"file extensions" with .BMP and .INI as subentries.
