Subject:Re. Video scripting From:Geoff Hart <geoff-h -at- MTL -dot- FERIC -dot- CA> Date:Tue, 28 Nov 1995 15:20:35 LCL
Mike Uhl, in an otherwise bang-on series of notes on the
art and science of video production, made one comment that
deserves a qualifier: "don't hire talent" (i.e., pros).
Mike is correct that most of the time your money can be
spent better elsewhere, but there are two big exceptions to
his suggestion:
1. If you're working for a charitable organisation, you can
often get surprisingly big names to donate their time.
Worth a shot if you can locate their agent!
2. If your local college/university has a drama, film or
broadcasting program, there will be lots of students
desperate to do free (or cheap) work to get a copy of the
video for their portfolio. We've worked with such folk, and
you'd be surprised by how good some of them are. Both of
you benefit, another nice touch. Test them out first, of
course, to separate the Anthony Hopkins types from the
Stallones! <grin>
We now return to our regularly scheduled broadcast...
