Okay, here are some ideas (My coworker, Al Andersen, came up
with most of them):

1. A square with a 1 in it. ("Going back to square one.")
2. A dinosaur (devolution)
3. A fetus (I told him this probably wouldn't go over well
with some people. Also devolution.)
4. An egg (Again, devolution.)

My favorite is square-one.

Al also gave me the rundown on an industry standard:

There is an industry standard icon, which somebody already
described as being the "Reload" button in Netscape, that is used
in many different programs to mean "refresh", "reload", and
"redo". MS Word uses it (for you Word users).

The icon looks like a curved arrow going in a clockwise
direction. In its "redo" persona, its opposite is a curved arrow
going in a counterclockwise direction for "undo".

The dot, which was described in the Netscape implementation, is
a Netscape variation. Usually it's just the curved arrow.

Now the problem: all these usually mean to reload the previous
value, which may not be the default value.
