Huh? I thought *I* was the cryptic one.
If you're referring to the fact that I edited what I was responding to,
rather than simply reposting the whole thing, that's just good manners.
If you're referring to the fact that I never (unless it's relevant) cite the
name of the poster of what I'm responding to, I have several reasons for that:
1. It's error-prone. Ignore the fact that messages can be faked. Assume that
all posts really come from whomever they say they come from. People still
get it wrong -- sometimes attributing a post to someone who was actually
disagreeing with it.
2. Not attributing the material places the emphasis on the idea, not the person.
3. Often I edit the idea I'm responding to, and the original poster might
not like to have my words placed in his or her mouth. ...RM
