I actually thought FrameReader was no longer available but I continue to
hear comments about it on the framers discussion list."
FrameReader is a downsized version of FrameMaker/FrameViewer. It allows you to
view and print Frame documents but not edit them. All hypertext links are
active (Frame can generate hypertext links in all generated files TOC, LOP,
Indices, etc.) You can view FM documents created with all versions of
FrameMaker (3.0, 4.0, and 5.0) as well as those created on all the platforms.
If your company has a Frame license, you can distribute FrameReader throughout
the company so long as it is not used for profit. The company I contract with
has locations in Paris, London, LA, Atlanta, and Singapore. We routinely move
FM files across the network to all locations who then view/print the files. A
great savings in time as well as courier fees.
FrameReader is available as part of the FrameMaker 5.0 release. If you buy the
CD version, it is included on the CD. If you buy the diskette version, you have
to request it separately.
It is also available from the FrameMaker www page. The zipped file is
approximately 5MB, so expect a long download. You can also request the files
from Adobe.
BTW, I do not work for Adobe, only a very satisfied FrameMaker user for the
past 5 years.
