Hello!

Hopefully some of you out there can help us with a problem we're having. Our
Technical Communications Designer (who is college trained, but not degreed
yet),
is being paid as an hourly employee, while the technical writers and editors
such as me are on salary. Is this the norm?

Can those of you who have fulltime graphic artists (company employees, not
contractors) in your Pubs departments tell me:

1) Whether technical communications designers at your companies are salaried or
hourly? (And does anyone have an opinion on what's most APPROPRIATE?)

2) What is the difference in job duties between a designer and an art director?
Our technical communications designer is interfacing with vendors and making
big-dollar decisions.

Thanks for your help.
