Emily, I'm the job bank coordinator for the Austin STC chapter.

Using ASCII, don't use spaces for indents. Each monitor displays the type
in a different way and your idents may come up jagged on someone elses
monitor. Use 12 point type and something like times if you convert from a
Word, etc. file to ASCII. Use line spacing and caps to emphasize or for
headings. Tabs are ok if you make sure that your line length is no more
than 5 inches.

Since, in ASCII, you don't get to show off your design talents, spelling,
punctuation, and no other errors is very important.
