Thinking as a user I support Sue Gallagher's position.

I don't enjoy reading long documents off a computer screen.

1. BEFORE installing a program I print out the installation
and read.me files that are all-too-often on disk instead of
on the manual. (I've forgotten which group carried the
tale of the installation instructions that couldn't be read
until AFTER the program was installed!)

2. I prefer to read manuals lying-down, on the bus, and in
other odd places. (I used to read them in the bath, but,
since I can't get out of a bath unaided I take showers
instead. Computers suitable for use on the factory floor
and out of doors cost a lot more than those designed
for reasonably clean-office use.
(A plea for water-proof paper and bindings <grin>.)

3. I annotate my manuals. I can't do that on a CD-ROM
and I prefer not to muck around with supplied files. So
once again I print out whatever I can. (When time,
source and energy permit, I use PageMaker and a
long-arm stapler to turn them into convenient booklets.

4. etc. etc. etc.

How typical am I?
