"Innumerate" is an apt word; it was used years ago by Garrett Hardin,
who proposed that educated people have three kinds of skill:
literacy, numeracy, and ecolacy -- in his brief definition, "a
knowledge of what comes next." Numerate thinking does not always
produce good ecological results, e.g., doubling the amount of
DDT to get rid of even more bugs.
