Value Added by Tech Comm--Info Anyone?

Folks:

Have any of you studied the value you add as technical communicators for
your organizations, in dollars-and-cents terms?  I am beginning a
Master's thesis (University of Colorado, Denver) that will pull
together studies of the value that is added by technical communication and
how to measure that value, and I would like to correspond with any of you
who have made such a study in your own company, or who know of studies
or research in this area.

I am aware of the important article by Redish and Ramey in the 1/95
Journal of Tech Comm.  However, I haven't found much else (except what's
in their bibliography, of course).  Are there any doctoral dissertations
on this or related topics?  Has this subject been discussed on this list
recently?  I usually follow the list carefully, but I missed most of
this winter's badinage.

I hope this work can be helpful to all of us who want to show our value
to our employers in bottom-line terms (i.e., terms that managers
understand and respect).  I will be happy to share results with anyone,
or with the list generally if there is wide interest.  If you have a
study or other information to share, or would like to discuss this,

By the way, I will be attending the STC meeting in Seattle in May, and I
would be glad to meet and talk with anyone who is interested in this topic.
