Professionalism, ethics, and morals

      To me that's the broader issue here--what's the relationship between
      the professional and the moral? And, for that matter, between the
      professional and the ethical?  Are these so easily separated? And are
      the tensions that these binaries create productive ones or not?

Get Real. Professionalism and morals are *not* linked. While it's true that
professionalism requires ethics, that most certainly means there is no
"tension" between them (there may be tension between profesisonalism and
the *lack* of ethics, but that's another question entirely). OTOH,
Professionalism doesn't require morals. It is quite possible for immoral
and amoral people (such as mob hit men, thieves, etc.) to be professional.
There are connections between ethics and morals, but these connections are
not logically necessary. It's possible (as noted above) for one to be
personally immoral or amoral and still operate ethically.

And, to bring this back to Tech Writing, where it belongs, there is *no*
connection between one's personal morals and Tech Writing.
