I DID look it up in the New Webster's dictionary, and Roget's
Thesaurus. I also tried the FrameMaker on-line Thesaurus. Finding no
reference, I figured it was another instance of "Engineering-ese."
The context in which I've seen it used suggests that this is true.

The definition I find for "perpend" is "A long stone or brick reaching
through the thickness of a wall and visible on both sides." We must
have vastly different dictionaries!
