Ellen,

You asked abt Advertising in manuals. You already have some useful
feedback on this but here are my 2 Lira.

At face value this looks like a good idea, but I would be careful what is
advertised. If one advertises a product that dates quickly it might look
strange 2 years in the future. Can you imagine MicroSoft advertising
Windows 3 on say MSWord 5; while Word 5 is still in use MS would rather
people move to Windows 95 or whatever the flavour of the month happens to
be.

You also write:
>>>While I'm not overly fond of advertising, I believe something like this
>>>could actually add value to the books ("why print manuals, nobody reads
>>>them").
>>>

I cannot stand "people do not read manuals" argument. I am an Apple Mac man
so we are not supposed to read manuals, but it is the manual that one turns
to when things start playing up. My counter argument is this: a good
manual does not help you make sales, but a bad one will certainly lose you
sales.

A few months ago I asked another list what they thought about Italian
machinery. One reply from the US specifically said that they will never
consider buying again from a particular supplier because the manual was
useless.

My rule of thimb is this: if it is something your clients receive from you
it should be the best.

Bye
Lawrence
