And here, Mike, we come to the only portion of your position that I
heartily disagree with.

I don't think we as individuals or as a collection have the right to
dictate just what jobs someone else should be allowed to do. You'll have to
pardon me for this, but I have too high a regard for individual freedom to
arrogate for myself the right to tell *anyone* that they will not be
allowed to try to be a writer/illustrator. Further, I'll fight against
anyone else trying to do likewise.

I don't know, perhaps it comes from working in too many shops where the
work rules are rigidly set forth; where person A can move this box, but if
the box is so heavy that it requires a cart to transport it, then person B
is the only one who is allowed to move it, while this other box cannot be
touched by either A or B but requires yet another person.

No, thank you, Mike. I've known some illustrators who were quite good
writers. I'll not be a party to any movement which would bar them from
writing.
