Not mentioned in this discussion is _Words Into Type_, Prentice Hall. I
have the 3rd Edition (1974). A top-level outline:

Part I: The Manuscript (1-54)
Part II: Copy and Proof (55-96)
Part III: Copy-Editing Style (97-240)
Part IV: Typographical Style (241-338)
Part V: Grammar (339-404)
Part VI: Use of Words (405-488)
Part VII: Typography and Illustration (489-531)

It includes a bibliography, glossary, and index. I remember it as being
gentler and less pontifical than _The Chicago Manual of Style_, and also
more accessible in some respects. Their coverage is not identical, and some
specific decisions differ. This complementarity can be useful.
