Subject:Two spaces between sentences From:"Mark L. Levinson" <mark -at- MEMCO -dot- CO -dot- IL> Date:Sun, 14 Jul 1996 11:30:19 +0200
The elimination of the extra space between
sentences is the product of an evil conspiracy
between graphic designers (who like a block of
text to project a nice even gray) and word-
processor developers (who can't distinguish
between a period+space at the end of a sentence
and a period+space elsewhere).
Whether your type is monospaced or proportional,
extra space between sentences makes it easier
to read. And no, the extra space does not create
terrible rivers of white space unless you are doing
something wrong, such as using too narrow a
column or trying to justify without good
hyphenation.
