Why assume the two are separate? Adhering to grammatical rules doesn't
mean a loss of communication.

As far as what makes a good TW, I would say: the same things that make
any professional a good one. Be familiar with the skills necessary to
complete the job. TWs need a wide variety of skills, more so than many other
jobs, but still if you're good at them you're a good TW.
