I know that a lot of folks dislike the very notion of a tech writer's test
(e.g., a pencil-owner's manual), but I've come up with what I think is a
particularly nasty one:
Write the instructions for sending someone to the grocery store to
buy a head of iceberg lettuce, with particular emphasis on assuring
that they do not come back instead with a head of cabbage (or anything
else). Assume the store they go to does not have these vegetables
labeled in any way. (Asking a store clerk for help is not an option.)
I'd make an evil interviewer }:)
