responding to your posting of 9/10. I was out of the office all last week and
yesterday, and I'm now trying to sort thru a mountain of e-mail, snail mail,
etc.
In response to your question, the book I recommend most is _Indexing Books_ by
Nancy Mulvany, published by the University of Chicago Press. As others on this
list have already mentioned, _The Art of Indexing_ by Larry Bonura and the
section on indexing in the 14th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style are also
good resources.
If you have specific questions as you tackle your first index, please let me
know. I'll be around for the next week or so (before heading to Northern
California to deliver more indexing workshops).
