Widow followup

In my previous post on widows and orphans, I'd suggested
that "widow... the lonely line divorced from the rest of
the paragraph" was a mixed metaphor. Bill Sullivan
graciously corrected me, and gave me permission to add to
the thread: AHD3 proposes that "grass widow" is an
idiomatic way of saying divorcee, so the metaphor was not
mixed, just cryptic. The things you learn on this list!
