As a technical writer working in a cubicle, I have often
debated with co-workers the advantages and disadvantages of
keeping an extra chair in your cubicle for those who may want to visit.

Advantages of keeping a "Guest" chair:

1. Provides a place for someone else to sit.
2. Extra space (put things on seat)
3. Creates a social atmosphere
4. Technical resource will be more comfortable visiting and providing
information
5. Sitting in the extra chair gives one a different perspective on
the document at hand

Advantages of NOT keeping a "Guest" chair:

1. Even more space to store documents (although may not be as accessible)
2. If someone is not comfortable standing, they will not keep you from
your important documentation work.
3. Makes you look busier (as in not having time to "hang out" with
others)
4. Cost effective to only have one chair.
5. Provides another space for placement of a second trashcan.
