To place an icon in the left margin easily, go to the reference page
and create a reference box with the icon flush to the left margin in
the box. Then in the paragraph style, advanced screen, assign the
new icon as the top line and in the basic screen make the space above
a negative number (start with -20 and adjust from there). It's hard

Check your Frame clipart. They have triangles you can rotate and size
in any way you want. These can be used with the reference page
trick mentioned above.

If this makes absolutely no sense at all, let me know and I'll
email you a sample reference page that shows how we did this.
