==================================================
Announcing the 19th Annual
Technical Communication Competition
Sponsored by the Willamette Valley Chapter,
Society for Technical Communication
==================================================

The Willamette Valley Chapter of STC in Portland, Oregon invites technical
communicators to enter its 19th Annual Technical Communication Competition.

This year's theme, 'Navigate the Future,' expresses the challenges of
charting a course through the rapids of changing technology. By submitting
your work you can:

<> Receive local and national recognition
<> Show off your ability to reach landfall and produce high-quality
technical materials
<> Receive written evaluations of your work
<> Qualify your entries for STC s International Competitions

By participating in the competition, businesses demonstrate their commitment
to superior communication.

---Awards and Recognition---

Four levels of recognition may be awarded in each category:

<> Distinguished Technical Communication
<> Award of Excellence
<> Award of Merit
<> Award of Achievement

Whether you win an award or not, you will receive an acknowledgment and the
judges' evaluations of your entries.

All entries will be placed on display at the annual Awards event. This is
your chance to mingle with other explorers and view the winners. In keeping
with the theme, this year s speaker is Tara K. Harper, an Oregon based rock
climber, science fiction novelist, and technical communicator. The awards
celebration is January 16, 1997. Mark your calendar now for this exciting event!

---Eligibility and Fees---

Works about technical subjects produced after September 1, 1995 are eligible
for entry in the competition. The rules specify several other requirements
for entries.

Entry fees vary depending on the STC membership status of the contributors;
entry fees range from $35 to $70. A special rate is available for student
projects.
