I've been following the "title" discussion with interest, since I just started
my job yesterday and am asked to pick my title. I've been a Technical Writer
(II) for several years, and the next step at that job would have been Senior
Tech Writer. (My boss there was crusading to change our descriptions to
Consultant, since we all did so much more than write -- we were all involved
in training and helping the help desk -- both those jobs were called
consultants. And the Consultant salary range stretched higher than the TW
range.)

Anyway, at my new job, I'm the only tech writer, and I'm also going to be
involved in training. If we need more tech writers, I'll get to hire them.
My boss, the VP of Operations, came up with "Technical Documentation and
Training Specialist" during the interview process. This seems descriptive to
me, though I may need a fold-out business card.... He said I can choose
something as long as it doesn't include the words "Vice President" or "Senior"
-- seems like there's one other taboo word I can't remember....

Any suggestions, given the training component of my job?

Thanks,
Sharon Belville
