ACM's Special Interest Group on Documentation (SIGDOC)
invites you to submit proposals for papers, panels, posters
and demonstrations, and tutorials to be presented at the 1997
SIGDOC Conference. SIGDOC 97 provides a forum for individuals
with varied backgrounds and interests to explore issues
related to documentation and to meet with other senior
communication professionals. We encourage proposals on the
following suggested topics:

The Conference Theme
This year ACM marks its 50th anniversary and SIGDOC holds its
15th conference. Such occasions provide an opportunity to
reflect upon the past and present and look towards the
future. In a linked conference with IEEE's Professional
Communication Society, the conferences' shared theme,
"Crossroads in Communication," suggests that technical
communicators and documentation specialists currently face
many important junctures:
* How do we define ourselves?
* What skills remain essential despite new tools, techniques,
and delivery mechanisms?
* How do the current problems we face resemble those of the
past?
* How do we leverage new technologies and changing work
environments?
* What is our future and how do we prepare for it?
Join us in Salt Lake City, Utah, at Snowbird Conference
Center and Resort to explore these crossroads and others.
What You Submit a 300- to 500-word proposal describing your topic,
Need To Do objective, and presentation format:
* Paper a report on research or practical results.
* Panel a group of three or four speakers who discuss and
debate pressing issues.
* Poster or demonstration a demonstration of current
software or multimedia you have or are designing.
* Tutorial half- or full-day workshops (hands-on)
exploring issues related to documentation and the
conference theme. If your tutorial is accepted, you will
receive $250 (half-day) or $500 (full- day), plus travel
and one night's lodging.
Include a short biography with your proposal. Proposals
submitted both to SIGDOC '97 and IPCC '97 will not be
accepted.
Proposal deadline: February 14, 1997
