I'm not a big authority on resume etiquette or anything, but I can speak
from experience. My last two job interviews resulted in jobs, and they
were solicited with a two page resume. What's more, I eschewed the
bulleted list and wrote most of the thing in block paragraphs. Of course
there were all sort of other do-dads - section headings in the left
margin, and callout definitions in the right margin, and some
nifty typeface action. But it sure as hell wasn't a one page resume
with a bulleted list of word processing tools I have used.
My reasoning was this: The first job was actually my first out of
university, and I had no TW experience per se. So I decided to
SHOW prospective employers that I could write a clear, concise,
good looking manual by turning my resume into one. For my second
job, I decided that the reasoning was still sound. I've sent that
resume out only twice, and it's brought home the bacon both times.
If it were a fishing lure, I'd mass-produce it and make millions.
Now don't all of you ruin my good thing by turning YOUR resumes
into manuals.
