I think that you're under estimating the value of attending STC meetings.
They're not just for 'schmoozing.' (Did I spell that right?)

I originally joined the STC for professional development and contact, but I
found out very quickly that there was a unexpected side effect to attending
monthly meetings. I met some wonderful people. I consider these people my
friends and attend monthly meetings as much for social contact as for
professional development. I think that this qualifies as "life outside of
work."
