Blackmail. :)

"Say, I saw this fabulous web site about Quake. It had console commands,
tactic tips, and a whole lot else. Quick-loading too. Oh, didn't you say you
were into Quake? Would you like to get that URL? I have it written down
somewhere--I'll pass it along the next time we get a chance to meet over this
product. When can we do that do you think?"

Of course, this is the beginning stage of the become familiar/known/liked by
the SMEs phase of operations, an endeavor to prevent difficult situations from
coming up in the future.

One method that has almost always worked for me is to ask questions about
something they're interested in outside of work. If I can get them to associate
me with answering fun questions, it'll be easier to associate me with answering
questions about work stuff. I just have to make sure I don't ask too many
questions altogether, otherwise I'll look like a goof and then no one would want
to speak to me. ;)
