Assume, for the sake of argument (a noble cause!) that a typo has crept
into your resume when you turned your back. (Typos are like paper clips
- they multiply in the dark and migrate to unlikely places.) So
IF you send out a resume with a typo
THEN a) some resume readers (RRs) will immediately discard it for
reasons having nothing to do with typos; OR b) some RRs will ignore or
overlook the typo and call you in for an interview; OR c) some RRs will
discard it because it has a typo.
It's like Pascal's wager. The cost of being wrong is too high, assuming
you only send resumes to companies you really want to work for. I
haven't seen anything to the contrary, so I assume we all agree that
typos of any type are Not Good, and should be avoided if possible.
Right? So it's the 'if possible' part that's generating the heat. Do the best
you can, kids, and correct mistakes when you find them. An asymptotic
approach to perfection is the best most of us can manage.
