I disagree with your statement below. If 'Add Patient window' is the
subject and 'displays' is the predicate, what is the object? In other
words, what does the 'Add Patient window" display? Itself? That would be
just as magical as 'appears'.

However, to be consistent with 'closes', you might say, "Click Add. The Add
Patient window opens".

I agree. We are not pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Neither does anything
disappear. It closes. Why not just: "Click Add. The Add Patient window
displays."
