To summarize for brevity (and to open myself to all sorts of spurious
attacks claiming I missed the whole point):

  Someone put forth the proposition that people with specific hobbies,
  interests, or qualifications make bad Tech Writer's as they tend to
  be prima donnas.

This brought about a lengthy discussion that skirted the entire
issue in my mind. It is extremely easy to design a series of
interview questions that is far more accurate at screening prima
donnas than any of the various methods described. They'll tell you
that they think they're untouchables if you let them.

There are far better ways to separate the wheat from the
chaf in the "not even worth a phone call" resume purge than looking
at the degree they got in college or searching the Interet to find
out if they post to sff.romance.writers.

Good technical writers are multi-disciplinary by nature, are they
not?
