I think you're right on the money. My opinion (quite personal, not
backed by any research, although I'd be interested to know if any has
been done) is that the writer/editor relationship works best when it is
collegial: a peer review process rather than a top-down, authoritarian
approach. This opinion probably reveals a lot about my own working
style, but I think it's accurate. As for qualifications, you definitely
want an English major, or at least someone with proven facility with
grammar and usage. Again, my own bias. Sorry, you asked for objective
feedback, and I've given you nothing but opinions.
