Subject:Copy from Word 97/Paste to Paint From:"Heidt, Kim (AZ15)" <Kim -dot- Heidt -at- IAC -dot- HONEYWELL -dot- COM> Date:Thu, 29 May 1997 17:17:38 -0500
Hello all!
Our department is waiting for the approval to purchase Corel Draw, but in
the meantime we have several large documents to send out using Word 97
and Microsoft Paint. The conversion to Word 97 was painful at best
(downright devastating at worst) and we're still trying to figure out the
nuances of the new file formats.
One of our biggest problems was the integration of pictures (mostly
screen captures) into the documents. Since Word 97 does not support
linking of pictures (unless you exactly size each pic BEFORE you link it
into your document), we have gone to embedding the pictures and braced
ourselves to take the hit on file size. A curious thing happened,
however. Pictures which had been embedded before the conversion (i.e.,
had been embedded in Word 7.0) made the file sizes very large, while
newly embedded pictures hardly affected the file size at all. All of the
new pictures were saved off in Paint, then inserted into the Word 97
docs.
Now the problem is that I'd like to Copy out the embedded pictures from
the Word 97 doc, Paste them into Paint, save them off, then re-insert
them in Word 97 to get the document file size back down so we can save
our entire 250 page doc into one file again. For some of the pictures,
this method works fine. But when the others are pasted into Paint, only
3/4 of the picture shows up, even if the bitmap is big enough to
accomodate the paste. Has anyone had the same problem? Is there
something that I can do to ensure the entire object in Word 97 gets
pasted into Paint?
Feel free to reply off-list if you like.
