Hi, all,

A couple of weeks ago I asked for opinions about Visio technical, or
any other recommendations for flowcharting/diagramming software.
Several people asked for a summary, so I decided to post to the list.

Almost everyone (about 20 people) who e-mailed me and had used either
Visio or Visio Technical was very enthusiastic about the program. I
mean VERY--some of you went into RAPTURES about it! Consensus seems to
be that it's easy to use, cuts time for producing flowcharts waaaay
down, and has practically every shape you'll ever need. People are
using it for flow charts, org charts, schematics, block diagrams, etc.

One person felt that the quality of the graphics is "a little iffy for
professional-looking documentation", but no-one else said that. One
person had importing/exporting problems, and one noted that it takes
up a lot of disk space.

I did receive one recommendation for ABC Flowcharter, 2 for AllCLEAR
(one person noted that it's good for process diagrams--you indicate
the process, it creates the chart--which might make it less flexible
than some of us might need), and one for CorelFlow.

Other notes: The main difference between Visio and Visio Technical is
that Visio Technical provides a variety of shapes for electronics,
telecommunications, space planning, facilities management,
construction, etc.

Called Visio tech support, and found that Visio drawings can be saved
as BMPs or TIFs, which will allow me to import them into Interleaf.

Thanks to all! Sorry it took me so long to post this.

TTYL,

Nora
