This subject line, coupled with the recent InfoWorld story, shows the
importance to an organization of a TW that can read code.
Apparently a development project team at Novell put together a new whiz-
bang for them, but intentionally didn't comment the code. Then they left to
form a new start-up around the development work they had done.
The project leader said the code was left bare intentionally, because they
intended to leave and make a ton of money off the technology. "If I write
it down, Novell owns it." was one of his quotes.
When last heard from, they were working on a similar technology for NT.
(Wow, sabotage a competitor and then write for Bill! It's probably too
cynical of me to say they'll fit right in, so I won't.)
I'm not intending to start a discussion of the morality of what they did. I
just want to point out that, for TW's in SW companies anyway, reading code
can be a way to save the comapny's bacon.
