Subject:Re[2]: Spacing after a period... From:"Walker, Arlen P" <Arlen -dot- P -dot- Walker -at- JCI -dot- COM> Date:Wed, 2 Jul 1997 15:32:02 -0500
Two small comments on other aspects of the thread. There are inits
that block double spacing on the Mac. QuoteInit is one that comes to
mind, available from InfoMac, I believe. Secondly, that was no mere
subordinate, that was Archie Goodwin!
I don't know how the ugly rumor got started that the Mac OS compels double-
spacing after periods! It does no such thing. There's no need for any
special extension to stop it because it just doesn't happen. (Check this
post, for example. Typed on a Mac yet no double-spaces after full stop, and
no extensions installed for that purpose.) Some of the DTP programs have
settable preferences to cover that; maybe that's what confused the poster.
Second, it *wasn't* Archie, that much I'm sure of. For one, Archie wouldn't
have had to "go home" and look it up. He was already home; he lived there.
My memory isn't what it used to be, but I think it was Orrie Cather in
Family Affair. But one of the other part-timers, Johnny <mumble> (I told
you it wasn't as good as it used to be) is a possibility as well.
Have fun,
