For what it's worth, Paul Branchaud's problem might be the printer driver
used (as someone else suggested also). I recently asked the computer guru
at a well-respected local printer (Benwell-Atkins, for the Vancouverites
among us) for his recommendations when preparing Postscript files for
printing elsewhere.
He recommended strongly that H-P drivers NOT be used when generating
Postscript code for film output. He's had endless difficulty with getting
them to output properly. He recommends the Linotronic 330 driver, claiming
that the Postscript code it generates is the most standard. Failing that,
he recommends an Apple LaserWriter driver.
