Anyone know of a GOOD intro to programming book?

That actually breeds another question: What's the aim here? To really learn
to program or just to learn to read code?

Here's a couple of suggestions.

Read Code:
Something like Dave Mark's "Learn xx on the Macintosh" comes with enough to
read and write code and get some understanding of basic concepts.

Program:
Sedgwick's "Algorithms" is great place to learn some fundamental
programming constructs. (Cost on this is about $45, so try to find it in a
library or look it over good in the store first to make sure it's not too
advanced for your current state of knowledge.) Warning: parts of it require
math.

Programming is like communicating with a total idiot. It's easy to achieve
some rudimentary success with it, but doing it well is a lot harder than it
looks. Luckily, as a TW you've had a start at some useful experience in
that, eh?

Have fun,
