STC = Society for Technical Communication
It's an international organization for technical writers, basically.
Their web page is: http://stc.org
Some people have had bad experiences with it and others, like myself,
have found it to be enormously useful and productive. I guess it depends on
your local chapter and what you use the organization for.
It's open to students and professionals and if you join (it's expensive)
you get a quarterly journal and a magazine that's either monthly or
bi-monthly, I can't remember.
Here's an excerpt from the aforementioned web page:
The society's diverse membership includes writers, editors, illustrators,
printers, publishers, educators, students, engineers, and scientists
employed in a variety of technological fields. With more than 20,000
members worldwide, STC is the largest professional organization serving the
technical communication profession.
